Other names for this bill

A virtually identical bill was introduced in 2017.

Would prohibit abortion when fetal heartbeat was detectable

This bill would make it a crime for a physician to perform an abortion without determining whether the fetus has a detectable heartbeat. If a heartbeat was detected, it would be a crime to perform the abortion.

It would exempt situations where the pregnant woman's life was threatened by a physical (but not psyhcological) condition.

There would be no legal consequences for a woman who undergoes an abortion.

This bill did not reach full term

The bill did not receive a vote in the House of Representatives, and died when the session of Congress ended on Jan. 2, 2021.
