People won't look for work if they're still getting benefits

While this argument sounds reasonable, there is no evidence to support it. In fact, there is evidence that the long-term unemployed are finding jobs at the same rate since benefits were cut off in December as they were before. You can read a more in-depth explanation in this FiveThirtyEight.com report.

Also, by most estimations, there currently are three unemployed people for each job opening in the country. So regardless of the incentive, the situation for most long-term unemployed people is unlikely to change in the near future.
