Lawsuits challenge Trump border emergency

Various lawsuits have been filed to terminate the national emergency declared by Donald Trump in February 2019.

Those filing lawsuits include environmental organizations and property owners whose land would be used for a wall. A lawsuit filed by several states claims that diverting funds toward a wall would damage their economies and lessen their abilities to combat crime.

All of the lawsuits also list reasons why there is no factual basis for the emergency, and that the emergency goes against Congress' intentions.

Congress votes to end border emergency but Trump vetoes

On March 14, 2019, Congress passed a Joint Resolution to terminate the national emergency Donald Trump declared at the U.S. - Mexico border.

Trump vetoed the resolution.

The House of Representatives plans to hold a vote on March 26 to override the veto. The Senate has not announced plans for a similar vote.
